70 years ago a small group of enthusiasts banded together to save, preserve and operate a Sydney Steam Tram leading to the birth of the Steam Tram and Railway Society Co-op Limited (STARPS) - the oldest railway preservation group in Australia - and one of the oldest in the WORLD. It operated for nearly 40 years as Parramatta Park Steam Tramway until relocating to Valley Heights in the Blue Mountains in the mid-1990s. As a special treat for visitors during History Week, you can be ‘Marking Time’ as you re-visit the challenges, achievements, setbacks and successes of those remarkable years. Visitors can re-live their adventure with talks delivered by Society Life Members, photographic displays and a behind-the-scenes tour of current restoration projects. Your adventure includes a 20 minute ride** hauled by Steam Tram motor No. 103A that was saved from the wreckers, in a restored original tramcar that was part of a house for decades!
All the Museum’s regular attractions are on offer: vintage rolling stock open for inspection, art works, railway memorabilia, model rooms, café and shop complete the picture – be in it! Book online to reserve your ride** time.
**Subject to operational factors e.g. adverse weather, breakdown, crew/rolling stock availability etc.
