Known for their vibrant and dynamic performances, the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra breathes 21st-century life into centuries-old music, played on period instruments just as the composers intended. For example, the string instruments for this program use intimate, warm and sweet singing sheep gut strings rather than cold harsh steel strings.
Depictions of rustic and pastoral scenes abound in music from the Classical era — allusions to horse riding in particular. Mozart, Haydn, and prominent contemporaries including Luigi Boccherini and François Devienne (son of a saddle maker and virtuoso flautist) evocatively bridged the gap between the untamed beauty of nature and the sophistication of salon music.
Join select members of the Brandenburg for an evening to explore serene landscapes, imagine flourishing meadows, and revel in the joys of rural life.
