Laura Bishop: Vocals, Piano
Susie Bishop: Vocals, Violin, Guitar

Intricate guitar and rich sonic piano-scapes form the basis of this sister duo's original music. Their Americana and Celtic roots are a subtle aftertaste in their thoughtful explorations of love, loss and the human connection. Laura’s “spine-tingling” compositions combine with Susie’s “beautiful sound full of storytelling” and results in their truly unique sound.

Although the sisters have performed side by side since their childhood, Meremba is a relatively new incarnation, grown out of their earlier collaboration as Laura and Susie. Together they are also one third of ARIA nominated world music ensemble Chaika, acclaimed for their 2018 release Arrow. Laura has made a very successful career as a copyist and arranger, working closely with composers like Nigel Westlake and on blockbuster films such as Australia and Moulin Rouge. She is also well known for her performances and compositions with Australian world music stalwarts, ARIA award winning Mara! & the Martenitsa Choir and has composed for The Metropolitan Orchestra as a finalist in their Composer Development Program in 2016.

Susie is better known as a highly successful trans-genre artist, spanning from alternative classical, baroque, opera, jazz, folk, free improv, and any fusion across these genres. She is a recipient of the 2005 BBM scholarship and the 2019-2022 Prue Kennard scholarship in the areas of theater and opera. She performs regularly with the Miriam Lieberman Trio, the Marais Project, Monsieur Camembert, and looks forward to collaborating with Ensemble Offspring later this year

"The Bishop girls deliver tunes too complex to be labelled folk with leanings of classic celtic and Americana. The vocals are incredibly moving with the sincerity hitting you from the lovely Holey Song. Showcasing some of the best sister harmonies you'll ever hear ... the girls stretch their vocals over a sublime backdrop of piano, violin and guitar. Fans of Tori Amos and even Kate Miller-Heidke will dig. In short: magic." ★★★★
