Introduction to Book Binding

Sun 19 Jan 2020
9am - 1pm
A Must
Event will continue in wet weather
The beautiful art of book binding is still practised in this digital world. The hand making of books liberates you from any restraints of standard manufactured books, and you will begin to see the massive potential for creative expression, journaling and recording of your art and interests that personal choices in paper, size, shape and style allow you.

What to expect:

This workshop is skills-based and aims to achieve a basic codex-style book with a hard case (front and back covers) and a cotton spine. You will learn the 3-hole pamphlet stitch section sewing method and how to make a hard cover to fit your pages.

What’s included:

All tuition and materials are included in the cost of the workshop. We will use both new and upcycled papers and cardboards, PVA glue, and needle and thread. Tea, coffee and treats will be provided, and a delicious lunch will be available for purchase in store, so bring a picnic blanket if you’d like to enjoy lunch in Lyttleton’s garden at the conclusion of the workshop!

About your tutor:

Fiona Howle, the guest artist and presenter of the workshop, is a mother of triplets and a trained Group Facilitator. Her career before children covered 10 years as a full-time practising fibre artist in Bathurst and Sydney.
