Have you always wanted to learn to make your own preserves? Come and learn how with Cathy of Princess Pantry fame! Cathy will teach you the tips, tricks and trade secrets she uses to make her award-winning jams and marmalades. Just in time for the holiday season, you’ll leave the workshop with the skills and confidence to create beautiful, home made gifts for your friends and family.

What to expect:

Together, we’ll learn to make good, old fashioned jam using the natural pectin present in the fruit. We’ll also make gorgeous marmalade. We’ll discuss which fruits make the best jams and why, and we’ll also explore the delicious accents we can add to preserves to add character and more complex flavours. Cathy will also share some unique ways in which you can use your jams in desserts.

This three hour workshop will include demonstrations, recipes, a source list and tastings. Tea, coffee and treats will be provided, and a delicious lunch will be available for purchase in store. Bring yourself or bring a friend, and bring your own picnic rug if you’d like to enjoy lunch in Lyttleton’s garden at the conclusion of the workshop!

About your tutor:

Inspired by her beloved Nanna Alice, who made jam from the shared bounty of her neighbour’s trees, Cathy marvelled at the CWA, Red Cross and community street stalls where Alice’s jams took pride of place. Cathy honed her professional skills at Sean Moran’s landmark restaurant Panaroma, where she produced his range of preserves. She began her own label, Princess Pantry, in 2002, and has gone on to win 14 national awards, including Gold at the Melbourne Royal Fine Food Awards.
