Herman Pekel Exhibition

Every day until Mon 27 May 2019
Exhibition opening with the artist: Saturday 4 May, 3-5pm

Lost Bear Gallery presents a collection of 20 new paintings of the Australian bush by Herman Pekel.

Melbourne-based Pekel has been painting professionally for over 40 years and although he is particularly well known for his urban and city scenes, he is also renowned for his sensitive portrayals of the Australian landscape. Pekel’s ability with light and tone result in works of art that have the magnetism and glow of those that only exist in our happiest memories. His paintings are characterized by their dynamism and atmospheric quality and this is especially evident in this collection of new work. These timeless landscapes echo the traditions of Australian impressionist landscape painting and capture the unique beauty of the Australian bush.

Showing alongside Pekel will be a collection of glass art by Blue Mountains-based Kayo Yokoyama. Yokoyama’s exhibition of new work is called Secret Garden and features her iconic engraved trees on glass vessels. An earthy colour palette is a strong component in Yokayama’s new work and her subject matter has an obvious symbiotic relationship with Pekel’s bush paintings.
