Mindfulness and Japanese Ceramics

Every  Week on Friday until Fri 10 May 2019
5:45pm -8:45pm
Starting 15th of March - May 10th (inclusive)

Friday Evenings.

Learn how to cultivate your mindfulness, natural joy and stillness to transform a piece of clay into a beautiful, functional and timeless ceramic object. We will learn how to move at 'the pace of mindfulness' as we work, interact with others and observe ourselves. Through the exploration of specific mindfulness techniques we will bring a joyful focus and a powerful sense of ease to our work and to our lives. This course will be based on Japanese aesthetic values that allow us to be fully human and imbue our work with our beautiful, powerful and compassionate humanity.

What to expect

We will learn to make Japanese cups and bowls using our own joyful presence and energy. You will learn how to trim them and about glazing materials and technique. We will explore our own thought patterns as we work and how fast we can move through life in a way that allows us to maintain a sharp but gentle awareness. Each student will receive three glaze-fired pieces that they've created at the end of the course.
