Bat Night 2019
Bats… are not blind nor do they get caught in your hair and they do not suck your blood! Bats are a very misunderstood species, yet are crucial to life on earth. The only true flying mammal, there are over 1200 bat species in the world making up almost a quarter of the world’s mammal species. Australia has around 80 different species of bats. Come and learn more about bats at the Blue Mountains Bat Night! There will be bat talks and lots of fun batty activities for families. At this event you will be able to meet a Flying Fox and hear fascinating microbat calls after dark live via a bat detector. Enjoy a bat talk with local ecologist Marg Turton and flying fox expert Tim Pearson as well as other bat scientists and aficionados. There will be the popular Bat Cave for kid’s activities such as mask-making, badge making and temporary bat tattoos. If you get hungry with all this action, support the local RFS at their sausage sizzle.
Why not come dressed as a bat? Katoomba Library in The Blue Mountains - Katoomba is also going batty, staying open late and hosting some bat inspired activities.
This event is in its eight year and proudly supported by the Blue Mountains Conservation Society Blue Mountains Cultural Centre Blue Mountains City Council, Blue Mountains Library and the Australasian Bat Society.
