Protect our National Parks Community Rally

Sun 24 Feb 2019
Parking Available, Public Transport, Toilet on Site, Disabled Facilities
Event will continue in wet weather
The Blue Mountains Conservation Society is hosting a community rally to Protect our National Parks.

Our national parks currently face many threats - from high end accommodation and other development proposals, to fast-growing visitor numbers, as well as threats from feral and invasive species and the impacts of climate change

The Blue Mountains National Park also faces destructive flooding from the raising of Warragamba Dam wall and the impacts of the Western Sydney airport.

Blue Mountains National Park is one of the eight protected areas that, in 2000, was inscribed to form part of the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Greater Blue Mountains Area.

National parks need good managers who are sufficiently resourced to protect the parks’ values. However, the state’s park managers (National Parks and Wildlife Service) have been subject to funding cuts, restructuring and loss of staff expertise.

Show our political representatives and candidates in the coming federal and state election how much we care about our national parks!

Come to our Rally to Protect our National Parks.

Speakers include -

Anne Dickson - President of National Parks Association
Carolyn Pettigrew from Park Watch
Keith Muir - Director of Colong Foundation for Wilderness
Joan Domicelj, AM - Former Chair, Greater Blue Mountains and Australian World Heritage Committees
Madi Maclean - President of Blue Mountains Conservation Society.
Ecopella, an environmental choir, will provide inspiring songs!
