Woodford Academy Open Day - ‘The Blue Labyrinth - Since the Dawn of Time’ - a Talk by Author Bruce Cameron
Bruce grew up in Glenbrook and has been walking the creeks and ridges for over 50 years. With a fascination for Aboriginal and European history, he has recorded the human occupation of the Labyrinth over many years. From Aboriginal art sites to stories from early bushwalkers, the Labyrinth is a place of wonder and intrigue. Bruce is employed with Fire & Rescue NSW and has written three books on the history of the Blue Mountains and has contributed to magazines such as Wild. He lives in the extinct volcanic diatreme of Sun Valley.
The open day is also the last opportunity to view Vivienne Dadour’s engaging exhibition ‘Correspondence: The War Illustrated 1940-50’. Commenced in 2015 ‘Correspondence: The War Illustrated 1940-50’ examines, documents and exhibits a collection of hand written correspondence by members of the McManamey family and friends from 1940-1950 sourced from the Woodford Academy archives and private collections. The correspondence reveals particular concerns during World War 2 and in the post-war period and serves to record and share valuable insights into the texture of daily life and thought from this period-to create a sense of their place and belonging. The exhibition features two text based site specific installations and photo/digital artworks referencing aspects of the site and collection by artist Vivienne Dadour.
