Mindful Families: An introduction to mindfulness

Is stress and anxiety taking its toll on your family? Come and learn some simple techniques that can enable us to re-focus our attention, find our centre and put some space between ourselves and our reactions.
This 8 week workshop, brought to you by facilitator Alex Carbonetti, will introduce you to the theory and practice of mindfulness. You will realise how natural mindfulness is, that you do it already and that your quality of life can be enhanced by using very simple techniques.
This course is open to families and individuals. It could be a great way for family members to spend some quality time together away from the pressures of the home environment.
When is it?
Weekly for 8 weeks starting Sunday 6 May 2018, 2pm-4pm, finishing Sunday 1 July 2018 (no session on 10 June).
$80 for individuals $140 parent and student
What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.
While mindfulness is something we all naturally possess, it’s more readily available to us when we practice on a daily basis.
Whenever you bring awareness to what you’re directly experiencing via your senses, or to your state of mind via your thoughts and emotions, you’re being mindful. And there’s growing research showing that when you train your brain to be mindful, you’re actually remodelling the physical structure of your brain.
How can this help me and my family?
It is fair to say that in the course of normal family interactions there are numerous ways that we can become stressed or reactive. Learning and applying mindfulness can help reduce the likelihood of strong emotional reactions and help us to communicate better, making these interactions more constructive.
