Mt Majik Futsal High School Gala Day

The local High Schools, Katoomba High, Winmalee High and Korowal School did battle on Friday 1st June in the annual Futsal Gala Day.

The youth of the Mountains is amass with talented and gifted players who were determined to show their outstanding skills. What began as an intense and competitive morning continued throughout the day that led to the afternoon finals with thrilling games from all grades.

The Under 13 Male was a fairly close contest throughout the day with Katoomba B coming out on top with 4 wins and Winmalee A closely behind with 3 wins. Katoomba played an intense and energetic game in the finals against Winmalee A who played a thrilling and competitive game. However Winmalee A where too strong in the finals taking out the championship 1-0 against Katoomba B.

The Under 15 Female teams of Winmalee A and Winmalee B played enthusiastic and intelligent games throughout the competition. With Winmalee A a clear 7 points on the table the finals looked to be one sided affair. But Winmalee B fought hard and passionate in the finals and were victorious in their efforts taking the finals out 2-0.

The Under 14 Male final was fought out between two Winmalee sides. With Winmalee A dominating the day’s competition it looked like they would continue on their victorious ways to the finals. The game started at a rapid pace with many shots on goals, great saves and exciting goals. A passionate game that saw Winmalee A win the finals against Winmalee B 4 -2.

The Under 14 Female final between Katoomba and Winmalee was looked upon as a tough encounter with both teams showing promising and eager talent throughout the day’s games. Katoomba pushed Winmalee on many encounters but some amazing goalkeeping kept both sides scoreless. Katoomba’s persistence paid off with a goal winning the finals 1-0

Under 13 Female saw Korowal meet up with Winmalee in the finals. Both teams played consistent and dynamic futsal during the days games. With Korowal clear by only 1 point to secure top position in the table, Winmalee was not far behind biting at their heels. The finals saw some great game sportsmanship from both sides allowing the game to flow freely with many attempts to seal the game. Winmalee held off to the final whistle leading Korowal 2 – 1.

The Under 15 males played some very talented and flawless games leading up to the finals with both teams amassing 41 goals between them. These boys gave their everything in this game and played with determination, agility, pace and grace. The centre was electrifying with both teams cheered on by their supporters and fellow students. After a very intense final game the scores were locked in at 0-0 at the final whistle. The inevitable penalty shootout took place to decide the winner with Winmalee taking out the shootout to Katoomba by 1-0.
