Blackheath Golf Results - 7th March to 10th March 2018
Wednesday 7th March was our usual Single Stableford and 2BBB. Fine weather and an easterly wind raised our hopes that the course was finally at our mercy. And it was, albeit only for Trevor Thomas for 1/18th of the time on our par three 13th; a hole in one to match his November effort at the same hole.
Andrew Price (23) scored 38 points to win the Stableford event over Garry Way (17) with 37. Stuart Brown (13) and Ray Stanford) (34) started early to allow themselves time to amass 45 points in the 2BBB, and win. Nearest the Pin prizes went to Jim Walsh on the 2nd (69cm) and to Stuart on the 17th (260cm).
On Saturday 10th March the 2nd round of our Club Championships was played alongside a White Course Single Stableford. Nat Foster continued his stellar form of last weekend to maintain his overall lead, even though his score of 75 was 8 strokes worse. Adam Gronlund produced the best nett score of 63 from a 12 handicap. With 2 rounds to go, anything can, and will happen in the three grades. In B and C Grades particularly, pressures of strokeplay combined with dearth of ability and unrealistic expectations will test the fields. Next weekend involves the final two rounds, on Saturday and Sunday. And, the Single Stableford was won by Gordon Stovold (17) 41, coming off a long break.
Thursday 8th March saw Virginia Hurst sponsor a Single Stableford. Carrie Soady, our Captain led the way with 33 points off 36. Etsuko Saxton (45) was hot on her heels, only one behind. To ease her pain, Etsuko won the NTP on the 17th, while the sponsor, Virginia, won the NTP on the “Blackheath Vegie Patch”-sponsored 13th. Balls were won by Carrie, Etsuko, Yvonne Murray, Di Pease, Rhonda Lonergan, Virginia, Roz Starkey and Karen Tolhurst.
Like the Men, the Women are playing Club Championships. These finish on 11th March and will be reported next week.
