BLACKHEATH MEN

Wednesday 29th November was our "Tiger Wednesday", a Single Stableford and 2BBB run on the last Wednesday of every month. Grahame Phillips won the $100 first prize with 41 points off 15. He is in a patch of form at present where we are considering having a stamp made of his name. Sam Gray collected the 2nd prize with 39 from 12 handicap. The four ball winners ($60 each!) with 45 points were Russell Curtis (9) and Roger Saxton (18). Runners-up were Peter White (26) and Grahame with 44 points. NTP at the 2nd was Peter Messer (380cm). Balls went to 36 points.

This event is growing in popularity not only because of the hefty prizes, but also because of the challenge of playing the course from the back markers.

On Saturday 2nd December, Dave Wood sponsored the Lindsay Last Memorial to the tune of $500 plus bottles of wine for NTP's. Lindsay was a popular local plumber who excelled at gold and squash. The event was run in conjunction with our Monthly Medal and a White Course Single Stableford. Unfortunately, heavy rain in the mid afternoon cruelled some golfers' chances, but that's sport. The winner of the Lindsay Last Memorial for 2017 and our Monthly Medal was Roger Saxton (19) 64 over Peter Messer (16) 65. Ben Cameron came 3rd with 66 off 12. Adam Preen (17) 81 won a box of balls because he came last in Lindsay Last's event. Balls went to 71 OCB. We had visitors from local clubs and The Coast. Josh Kennedy, Captain of the Sydney Swans graced our course. He is a remarkable and fine man. His playing group was greatly impressed not only by his long hitting, but also his humble demeanour.

Saturday's Nearest the Pins awards and the NTP sponsors are as follows. 2nd hole sponsored by Blue Mountains Plantation Shutters and Cabinet Making, Bruce Ranse 29cm. 5th hole sponsored by Office Choice Blue Mountains, Grahame Phillips 86cm. 7th hole sponsored by Paul and Gabrielle Loneragan, Paul Stebbens 375cm.13th hole, sponsored by Blue Mountain Escapes, Grahame Phillips again 310cm. 14th hole Brad Evans 498cm. 17th hole, sponsored by Ben Cameron, Garry Way 183cm. All of the above won wine.

BLACKHEATH LADIES

Thursday 30th November was a Stroke event sponsored by Louise Stevenson. Patricia Honeysett took home the spoils OCB with an excellent 69 off 31. Virginia Hurst was the runner Up off 27. These two also closed out the NTP awards, with Virginia winning the 5th and Trish winning the Blackheath Vegie Patch 13th. Balls went to Trish, Virginia, Sandra Draper, Louise Aaron, Karen Tolhurst, Mandy McAlister and Ros Starkey.

Saturday 2nd December was a Single Stableford sponsored by Kerry Wynne. The round was interrupted by rain over the last few holes. Sandra Draper (30) 32 held out, winning OCB over Jocalyn Lawler (30). Balls went to Sandra, Jocalyn and Yvonne Murray, who scored 31 points.

Course conditions are excellent with true greens and lush fairways. The Blackheath Open is on 17th December, so don't miss the opportunity to play. There are a variety of playing classifications (e.g. super vets for ages 65 and older) that will whittle away the prize money of well over $1000 provided by our highly valued and reliable sponsor, Ray White, Blackheath.
