Using Transport Data to Keep You Moving

By Legislative Assembly Committee on Transport and Infrastructure
Posted: 24 Apr 2021
How can technology deliver better and safer transport options?

The Committee on Transport and Infrastructure is looking at how the transport technology sector can deliver transport service innovations.

"We want to understand how we can improve the way people plan their journeys and use transport services so they can easily travel when and where they need," said Committee Chair Robyn Preston MP. "Greater use of transport data and technology can give people the ability to personalise their travel options, allowing them to tailor services that better meet their needs."

The inquiry will look at how local research and development can deliver services such as Mobility as a Service, real time public transport journey information, and first and last mile transport services. How data can be used to make travel safer, especially for women will also be considered.

"As well as improving access to transport services, we want to see how we can make travel safer and more efficient for people. Having access to real time data about potential safety issues or disruptions on transport networks can help people make the best travel choice for them, especially when travelling at night."

The Committee will also look at the ethical considerations and regulations in the development of connected and automated vehicles.

"New vehicle technology has the potential to bring great benefits but we need to ensure that we also have the laws and rules in place to ensure it can be adopted safely."

More information, including the inquiry's terms of reference and how to make a submission, is on the Committee's webpage.

The closing date for submissions is 28 May 2021.
