Road Works continue across the City

BMCC Manager of Infrastructure Peter Chudek, Lawry Russel from State Asphalt Services and Mayor Mark Greenhill prepare for heavy patching work to get underway in the lower Blue Mountains.
An escalated road-fixing program, to address extensive damage caused by the recent natural disaster and flooding, has now commenced in the Lower Blue Mountains.

Work in Mount Victoria, Blackheath and Wentworth Falls is almost complete and this week (15 June 2021) work commenced in Blaxland to Lapstone, Springwood to Yellow Rock and Katoomba to Leura.

From January to May 2021, Council filled 7,300sqms of potholes, as well as repaired over 2080sqms of asphalt shoulders and 2600sqms of footpaths.

“To put recent pot hole repairs completed during this period into perspective, what was achieved in five months of this year is more than what was achieved throughout the whole of 2019-2020,” Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said.

“Council has received reports from residents of pot holes, and other road damage, on an unprecedented scale and councils across the State are facing a similar situation.

“In response, Blue Mountains City Council has allocated extra funding, teams and equipment to systematically address the issue and complete heavy patching repairs. Work commenced in the upper Blue Mountains, and is now moving to other parts of the City.”

Four teams of contractors are currently working throughout the Blue Mountains. It is expected that these current works will be completed by early July 2021.

“We are all keen for this work to be done quickly, but the reality is that major projects like this do take some time. Thank you to the community for patience and understanding,” Mayor Greenhill said.

If you would like to report a pothole, or road damage, please contact Council via eServices. You can also or call Council on 4723 5000 (lower mountains) or 4780 5000 (upper mountains).
