Recognise your Cat ownership responsibilities
In conjunction with the Cat Protection Society Lithgow Council is promoting responsible cat ownership
The three most important responsibilities of cat ownership are:
- Microchipping and registration
- Desexing before 4 months of age
- Keeping them indoors at night time
The Cat Protection Society can assist with discounted desexing and information on responsible cat ownership through The Good Neighbour Project. Details are on their website here and brochures are also available at Council’s Customer Service Centre.
Lithgow Mayor Councillor Ray Thompson said, ‘It’s important for pet owners to take responsibility for their animals. Let’s remember that kittens can have kittens so get them de-sexed early. Cats should also be kept indoors at night and not allowed to cause a nuisance to neighbours.”
Council Rangers can issue fines up to $330 for non-compliance with a cat nuisance order under Section 31 of The Companion Animal Act 1998.
