Mallard Promoted to Key Airport and Infrastructure Role
This follows his earlier election to the leadership role of Government Whip in the NSW Upper House.
In thanking the Premier for the important appointment Mr Mallard noted the opportunities that his new responsibilities would offer to Western Sydney and particularly the Blue Mountains region.
“The new Western Sydney airport is a reality and will impact the region in many ways. For some nearby it will be investment in industry, innovation and science creating the high paid jobs of the future.
“Access to a Greenfield site airport has already drawn investment interest from horticultural fruit and fresh flower industries and well as agricultural and livestock sectors.
“The announcement this week by the Berejiklian government of a billion dollar investment for critical infrastructure at the surrounding Bradfield third city site will reinforce investment by multinational innovation, industry and science companies.
Mr Mallard sees great opportunities for the Blue Mountains region and challenged the area to seize the opportunities the new airport will offer.
“For the Blue Mountains region and beyond, the arrival in the next decade of thousands of newly affluent Asian and sub continental travelers at our doorstep will provide more business and employment opportunities particularly in tourism and related arts and cultural sectors.
“The time is now for the Blue Mountains Council and business community to come together and develop a village by village strategic master plan to maximise the positive benefits for the region including investment in tourism and cultural facilities and supporting transport and amenity infrastructure.
“State and Federal governments are open to good ideas and innovation to leverage to the maximum community benefit the jobs and investment the airport will deliver,” Mr Mallard concluded.
