Local Artist Ludwina Roebuck Extends Iconic Artwork in Pioneer Heritage Park

As one of the cultural activation outcomes from the NSW Government’s Streets as Shared Spaces program, Lithgow City Council has commissioned local artist Ludwina Roebuck to expand her popular Birdhouse Wall installation.

Ludwina Roebuck is a Lithgow based artist who creates bright and joyful works from diverse and unique materials. Her existing installation Birdhouse Wall was commissioned by Lithgow Tidy Towns in 2016 with funding from the Lithgow Skulls Project. The vibrant installation quickly became a favourite among locals and visitors.

Ludwina has now created new plates in response to the plantings and other design elements recently installed in the park. New flowers created from found objects depict the locally native Large-Fruited Tea Tree (Leptospermum macrocarpum) which can also be found in the design on the amenities block and planted in the surrounding garden beds.

“Ludwina’s artwork is now an iconic part of the region’s growing public art trail. I’m grateful to her for bringing more of her creativity to Main Street,” said Mayor Ray Thompson. ”I would also like to thank Lithgow Tidy Towns and artists Tim Johnman and Steven Cunningham for supporting the commission.”

The Streets as Shared Spaces grant has delivered major enhancements to Pioneer Heritage Park, safety measures at the adjacent intersection and an extensive program of changing banner content that celebrate our unique regional assets and promote community celebrations.
