Lights on at sportsgrounds across the City

By Blue Mountains City Council
Posted: 6 Jul 2021
Blue Mountains City Council is turning on the lights at 12 sportsgrounds across the City giving the community the chance to get outside and be active during current COVID-19 restrictions.

The lights will be on between 5pm and 9pm Monday to Friday, during the lockdown period, at the following locations:

  • Lapstone Oval
  • Glenbrook Oval
  • St Johns (Blaxland)
  • Warrimoo Oval
  • Tom Hunter Park (Falconbridge)
  • Lomatia Park (Springwood)
  • Summerhayes Park (Winmalee)
  • Gloria Park (Hazelbrook)
  • Lawson Oval
  • Pitt Park – Top Field (WWF)
  • Katoomba Falls Reserve – Top Field
  • Blackheath Oval.

Currently, Council sportsgrounds, parks and ovals are open to residents for exercise only (in groups of no more than 10 people). There is no club training or games until at least Friday, 9 July, in line with the current public health order.

Blue Mountains Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said: “Council will be keeping the lights on at these sportsgrounds and parks throughout the City to encourage our community to continue to exercise, during this period of COVID-19 lockdowns.

“It is important that all residents continue to observe the NSW Government’s orders at this time, for the safety of our community.”

Council will be reimbursing clubs for electricity costs incurred during this period.

Council has also closed play equipment throughout the City during this period.  This followed large groups assembling at various play spaces across the City, after the lockdown commenced on 26 June, 2021.
