The final week of the Summer Competition for Futsal was held recently at the Katoomba Sports and Aquatic Centre.

The junior teams of Vikings and Dabba Kids saw them on the top of the table after the completion of the summer competition. Both teams put in a hard fought game but were unable to capitalise any goals during the match. Both teams were happy with their performance and the crowd was vocal in encouraging them along the way. The Speed Demons were too strong for the Blackheath Fireballs during their game. Having plenty of shots but unlucky not to score the Blackheath Fireballs fought to the final siren. The Speed Demons played very well with good passing and solid goalkeeping. Congratulations to all teams and players for making this competition full of fun, learning skills and making new friendships.

In the 8/9’s Dragon Strikers were dominant during the competition a clear 26 points on the table. However the Red Panda’s never gave up during the game and were relentless in their search for a goal. The Dragon Strikers had the advantage of being confident in their positions and the abilities and foresight of their own team’s skills. A fantastic team who have shined on the court throughout the season and have expanded their individual skill level. Congratulations to the Red Panda’s who fought hard against a well drilled side. The Foxes and Bears played entertaining futsal and had the crowd on their feet cheering on as both teams challenged each other. The Foxes had a few chances but were unable to capitalise whilst the Bears struck on numerous occasions to be awarded the point. A fast paced friendly game to finish off the season.

The 10/11’s age group had the Clejends and The Roosters battle it out after only 3 points separated them on the table. The Clejends had the bare 5 to kick off and held The Roosters off with some skilful defence and goalkeeping. The Roosters had some fast paced players and managed to sub wisely and have fresh legs take to the court. However the Clejends held on to a 2-1 win when the final siren sounded. The Glossy Blacks and The Firecrackers had a hard fought game with some athletic saves from the keepers and many well placed shots that were expertly contained by the keepers. A high intensity game that brought smiles to both teams and the crowd.

In the next age group The Incredibles and Team Toasters battled it out on court 1. Both teams came with a wealth of experience and ensured they displayed their talents with confidence and style. They both were relentless in their attack as well as their defence. Neither team gave the other any space, whilst both teams jumped on opportunities when they appeared. Some fantastic goalkeeping from both sides as well as a skilful, attacking approach to the game. Incredibles put 4 in the back of the net whilst Team Toasters scored 3. A close, hard fought game that was a credit to all players. KFC, Mint and Red Skins played off each other in a 3 way game with some expertly timed shots and spot on passing. A large flurry of goals was scored across the 3 games to the delight of the spectators and the players alike. A friendly competition that will see some emerging stars of the future.

In the seniors competition DA Team where the dominant side throughout the competition with Spaghetti Legs chasing them to the finals. Spaghetti Legs lost a player during the course of the competition and never truly recovered having that pivotal player sidelined. However the team endured and played many a spirited game against all teams and gave them all a challenge on numerous occasions. However DA Team just had the answers on the day and played beautiful Futsal to the tune of 7-0. Mystery Inc., Hotshots and Mountain Lions played a 3 way game which saw Hotshots score a handful of goals and keep their goals against to a minimum. Some well-timed passing, power shots and quick thinking responses saw entertaining games that was a pleasure to witness.

Congratulations to all teams who participated in the Summer Futsal Competition. A pool of talented players that are evolving and learning new skills and techniques each week.   The winter competition is currently getting underway and if you would like to play Futsal please contact Susan Kondek on 0419 434 725 for information.
