Government Member of the Legislative Council and Blue Mountains resident Shayne Mallard MP yesterday opened Hazelbrook Station’s new accessibility upgrades.

In opening the new accessible station Mr Mallard firstly acknowledged the impact of the bushfires on the Blue Mountains community and paid respect to the heroic efforts of the Rural Fire Service volunteers and Fire and Rescue members who have been battling the fires in the Mountains for weeks.

“The Blue Mountains community thanks those dedicated volunteers and firefighters who have been keeping us safe”.

“I am pleased to be here today to celebrate the upcoming completion of Hazelbrook Station as the 60th accessibility upgrade to be delivered across the NSW train network,” Mr Mallard said.

“These upgrades are important for providing customers with a number of benefits that will improve accessibility including people with a disability, limited mobility, parents and carers with prams and customers with luggage.”

The NSW Government will achieve delivery of its 60th accessibility upgrade under the Transport Access Program with the completion of Hazelbrook Station on 20 December.

The Transport Access Program is investing more than $2 billion to deliver safe, modern and accessible public transport infrastructure across the state.

The Hazelbrook Station Upgrade has provided customers with:

  • a new lift to access each station platform
  • two upgraded accessible parking spaces in the commuter car park
  • upgrades to pathways between the car park and station facilities, including an upgraded pedestrian crossing and footpath,
  • improved amenities including a family accessible toilet and unisex ambulant toilet
  • upgrades to CCTV, lighting and wayfinding signage.

“In the Blue Mountains, planning is currently underway to deliver accessibility upgrades at Lapstone, Faulconbridge, and Blackheath stations, and construction is also due to be completed at Glenbrook Station.”

To date, more than 470 projects are either completed or underway across the state since the introduction of the Transport Access Program in 2011.
