Footpath upgrade continues at Katoomba Town Centre
This follows footpath improvements delivered at Bathurst Road to the Carrington Hotel in 2012 and near the post office and Pioneer Place in 2014.
The continued improvement of the Town Centre footpaths is the result of Council securing funding of $870,000 from the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
“This is one of three projects that will significantly contribute to the rejuvenation of Katoomba Town Centre,” said Mayor Mark Greenhill.
“Katoomba is a destination for visitors from all over the world and Australia, as well as a popular shopping and recreational spot for Blue Mountains locals.
“This upgrade will improve the overall look and functionality of the town for residents, businesses and visitors.”
The project will see delivery of a new footpath, kerb and gutters from the southern side of the pedestrian crossing on Gang Gang Street, continuing down the eastern side of Katoomba Street to the Council car park (next to St Canice’s Primary School).
The work take place in three stages (subject to weather conditions):
- Stage 1: Theo Poulos to Katoomba Wines - Thurs 25/02/21 to Fri 26/03/21
- Stage 2: Omnia to Specsavers - Mon 22/03/21 Sat 24/04/21
- Stage 3: National Bank to Council Car Park - Mon 26/04/21 Fri 21/05/21
“Council has put steps in place to ensure there is minimum disruption, including some night works,” said Cr Greenhill. “And businesses will remain accessible throughout the project.”
Day works will occur 7am-6pm Monday to Friday and if necessary, 7am-3pm Saturday. Work on the Telstra pits will occur during the night to ensure minimum disruption.
There will be a construction compound in the lower level of Studleigh Place, off Katoomba Street, that will use six existing car parks throughout the project.
Tree plantings on the street will remain in place and Council will refurbish any impacted street furniture.
The western side of Katoomba Street from the pedestrian crossing at Pryor Place to Froma Lane will be the next stage of works, when funding becomes available.
