Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman said the website aims to record the details of every publicly accessible memorial in Australia.

"Places of Pride", the National Register of War Memorials, allows users to explore memorials on an interactive map and upload their photos.

“I encourage Blue Mountains residents to take part in the important task of capturing a photographic record of the many places of pride in our community, that commemorate the service and sacrifice made by men and women involved in conflicts from the Boer War to Afghanistan.

“They could be war memorials, cenotaphs, honour boards, memorial halls or avenues of honour, and must be publicly accessible,” she said.

“These are an important way to help tell the stories of the lives lost to wars, to help explain the impact it had on small communities like ours, and they are a tangible reminder to future generations.

“I look forward to seeing the many memorials across the Blue Mountains, recognised as part of this national register.”
