Council endorsed the Economic Council Endorses Two Key Strategies: Economic Development & Tourism and Gender Equity

Development and Tourism Strategy, and the Gender Equity Strategy, at its 27 July Council Meeting. Both strategies were developed after extensive community consultation.

"I'm pleased we have endorsed two important strategies for the Blue Mountains," Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill said. "And I'd like to thank everyone who took part in giving their input.

"The Economic Development & Tourism Strategy is a 10-year plan to create a strong and sustainable Blue Mountains economy that will provide increased local employment, education and learning opportunities."

The Economic Development & Tourism Strategy was developed through extensive community and stakeholder engagement in 2020 and went on public exhibition earlier in 2021. It highlights the importance of collaboration between Council, businesses, industry and the community. It is tailored to the Blue Mountains' unique setting and identifies a comprehensive delivery plan.

At the same meeting, Council adopted the Gender Equity Strategy 2021-2026, demonstrating Council's further commitment to gender equity and aligning with Council's inclusive policies.

"The Gender Equity Strategy is critical in helping us achieve better health and wellbeing outcomes for everyone in our community," Cr Greenhill said.

In 2018 Councillor Romola Hollywood, with Councillor Shae Foenander, called for Council to look at ways to support and improve the status of women in our community.

Council consulted with a group of key external stakeholders on the Gender Equity Strategy in 2019 and later consulted with other councils, including Lithgow Council, Ryde Council and Penrith City Council on their models.

The draft Gender Equity Strategy 2021-2026 went on public exhibition in June 2021 and the endorsed Strategy takes into account feedback from those submissions.
