You don’t need to be an expert to ask R U OK?
R U OK? wants mob to know that you don’t need to be an expert to ask R U OK?, because you already have what it takes to support the people in your community who might be struggling.
“We want to build confidence across our communities to ask R U OK? our way,” says Steven Satour, R U OK? ‘Stronger Together’ Campaign Manager. “Talking, listening and spending time with your mob could help someone when they need it. It’s something we can all do to keep communities strong.”
In the lead in to R U OK?Day, R U OK? is encouraging communities to download the ‘Ask your mob, your way, R U OK?’ resources from ‘Stronger Together’, a targeted suicide prevention campaign for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. It includes culturally appropriate content featuring community voices with guidance from the R U OK?
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group and was produced by the Brisbane Indigenous Media Association.
“Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples share a special connection to this country and to each other, through our cultures, communities and shared experiences. Regardless of where we live, or who our mob is, we all go through tough times, times when we don’t feel great about our lives or ourselves. That’s why it’s important to always be looking out for each other because we're Stronger Together.”
‘Stronger Together’ encourages people to engage and offer support to their family, friends and colleagues who may be struggling with life. The resources feature engaging and authentic stories that promote a sense of connection, hope and identity.
