Bringing world-class folk music, a selection of Scotland’s finest artists are hitting our shores this month as part of the Year Of Scotland in Australia 2020, the largest showcase of Scottish music and heritage in Australia, ever.

Fierce fiddlers, Fara, award-winning duo, The Jellyman’s Daughter, crowd pleasers, The Langan Band, musical storytellers, The Paul McKenna Band, and rousing young piper, Brìghde Chaimbeul, will traverse the country this March performing at folk festivals and venues across Western Australia, Victoria, Canberra and New South Wales.

“We can’t wait to return to Australia after spending the end of 2018 touring in regional towns,” said Emily Kelly, one half of acclaimed folk duo, The Jellyman’s Daughter.

“Whether it was a big festival or tiny town hall, the crowds welcomed us with open arms and brought so much energy to our shows. It seems like everyone has some connection to Scotland here, which is pretty special being so far from home.”

Due to an unprecedented collaboration between 35 Australian music festivals, the Year of Scotland in Australia will bring more than 150 of Scotland’s finest musicians to perform 300 plus shows in over 100 towns and cities, nationwide, by year’s end.

“I do think that the folk scene is uniquely collaborative - it's rare for so many festivals to get together to pull something off that will have such far-reaching benefits for artists and audiences beyond our own events,” said Chloe Goodyear, Head of Programming, Woodfordia Inc, who are producing YOSA with Showcase Scotland Expo.

With more than two million Australians claiming Scottish heritage, a genuine connection between the two nations sees the Year of Scotland in Australia 2020 tours and flagship events enhance an already vibrant and thriving appetite for Scottish culture.

Ms Goodyear said, “Year of Scotland in Australia will give audiences here the chance to see new and established Scottish artists of a wonderful calibre, in their own towns - the 'YOSA' banner makes it easy to find them, and I think that Scottish artists touring in years to come will enjoy a legacy of this development. I also hope that the Scottish events and musicians in Australia see an increased appreciation for what they've been maintaining here.”

From a 27-date Scottish Towns and Grand Houses tour across the country featuring world-renowned Capercaillie in May; through to the Brigadoon Highland Games and a local ,” said Head of Programming, Woodfordia Inc.

With more than two million Aussies claiming Scottish heritage, a genuine connection between the two nations sees the Year of Scotland in Australia 2020 tours and flagship events enhance an already vibrant and thriving appetite for Scottish culture.

From a 27-date Scottish Towns and Grand Houses tour across the country featuring world-renowned Capercaillie in May; through to the Brigadoon Highland Games and a local version of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Year of Scotland in Australia will feature a fast-expanding program of exceptional talent throughout the year.
