Working together to deliver a Community Net Zero Plan
The project was launched with a workshop at Springwood on Sunday 6 August, led by expert facilitator Les Robinson, and documented through live scribing by Blue Mountains illustrator Bill Hope.
Attendees included individuals and representatives from community groups across the Blue Mountains, who used the opportunity to network, brainstorm, and plan collaborative responses to lowering emissions.
Blue Mountains City Council is now seeking feedback from the community to better understand the actions that individuals and businesses have already taken to reduce their emissions, and their priorities for further action.
Blue Mountains Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said: “A Community Net Zero Plan will support all individuals, households, businesses, and groups in the Blue Mountains to make a safer climate, improve health and quality of life, while reducing the cost of living.”
Blue Mountains City Council CEO Rosemary Dillon said: “This initiative aligns with our focus of taking local action to restore planetary health and mitigate climate change.”
Net zero emissions refers to achieving a balance between the amount of greenhouse gas emissions produced and the amount removed from the atmosphere.
“Together, we will identify concrete actions for emissions reduction, prioritising those with the biggest impact right down to the small individual actions we can all take at home.”
“I urge everyone to participate in this project and helpachieve a net zero emissions future for our city.”=
