Upgrade to Lapstone Netball Courts to benefit community sport

The Lapstone Oval lower netball courts are set for a major upgrade to improve safety, accessibility and playing conditions for community sport.

Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said the project is an important investment in supporting participation and providing quality facilities for players of all ages and abilities.

“We’re proud to deliver upgraded, safer courts at Lapstone that encourage more people to participate in local sport,” Cr Greenhill said.

“This project is about providing fair access, modern facilities and inclusive spaces where everyone feels safe and welcome.”

The works will include the removal of tree root damage, installation of a new acrylic surface system, reinstatement of netball posts, and the application of compliant, non-slip court line markings.

The project is funded by the Australian Government Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts Play Our Way Program.

Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman said, “This $672,200 federal funding will allow Council to improve Lapstone Lower Netball Courts by replacing the old asphalt surface with a new, high-quality surface customised for netball.

“The new courts will provide a safer, more durable sustainable playing surface, attract and retain players, and reduce maintenance costs.

“The Play Our Way program is designed to give women and girls more opportunities to access, participate and stay involved in sport and physical activities, and this project does exactly that.”

Construction is scheduled to start in December 2025, with completion expected early 2026.
