Update Lithgow Community Private
This follows the Council recently considering a report on the status of discussions between LCP and the NSW Government about continued operation of LCP within the Lithgow Hospital precinct. The Council resolved to continue to encourage that these discussions be finalised as soon as possible, with agreement on an operating model that is viable and sees LCP flourish.
Lithgow Mayor, Maree Statham said, “I was pleased to hear first-hand from the LCP Board’s Chair, Mr Rob Swinton, that the discussions are on track and progressing positively. For more than 22 years the LCP has provided important specialist health services to the community. I have toured this facility and I am in awe of the many specialists and staff who treat hundreds of local people each year. The Board of LCP are to be commended for their focus on growing the health services they provide to the Lithgow community. I was also pleased to hear of the appointment of a new general manager. These moves are a sign of confidence in the future of this important health facility.”
The Council also supported LCP’s request for funding assistance from the NSW Government to help with recovery from the substantial impact to normal business as a result of Covid. Mayor Statham said, “The LCP model deserves support from government because it fills a gap that exists for specialist private health services within Lithgow. People get access to these services locally and often quicker than is the case for city-dwellers. LCP also relieves the public system of providing these services. I am sure there is not a person in Lithgow who doesn’t agree to LCP receiving a small amount of financial support so they continue to deliver their great health services to this community.”
