Turnbull Government Delivers Funding for Hawkesbury Showground Roads Upgrade
The Coalition Government granted $300,000 in funding to Hawkesbury District Agricultural Association (HDAA) for the project, which was a 2016 election commitment.
“This funding has enabled the upgrade of roads and drainage at Hawkesbury Showground,” Senator Payne said.
Funding under the Community Development Grants Programme enabled a range of works at the Showground including:
- Purchase of materials including concrete, road base, bitumen, turf etc.
- Construction works and site establishment.
- Upgrade of internal roads and drainage around the grandstand area; open exhibition area; horse stable area, equestrian warm up area and associated vehicle park areas; industrial Block A area; camping area; livestock exhibition area and arena surrounds from grandstand to woodchop area.
“This work will benefit community and sporting groups, locals and visitors who use the grounds for horse shows and Dressage NSW events, dog agility activities, local markets and expos, trade shows and the annual Hawkesbury Show, which was first held in 1845,” Senator Payne said.
“This will boost tourism and the local Hawkesbury economy.
“The project's completion is timely given the countdown to the Hawkesbury Show at the end of April. This popular agricultural show will no doubt once again draw massive crowds of local families, competitors and exhibitors in the Hawkesbury and throughout Western Sydney, along with those from well outside this beautiful region. We committed to this work at the 2016 election and I am very pleased to see the funds delivered and the work completed,” Senator Payne said.
Hawkesbury District Agricultural Association President, Ross Matheson welcomed the funding.
HDAA is very grateful for the financial assistance to enable our showground to do extensive upgrades to its roads and drainage,” Mr Matheson said.“The upgrades and new construction will greatly improve our showground and reduce the impact of adverse weather.”
