The recent Try a Trade Day Expo at Lithgow High School day was a great opportunity for local students from years 9 to 12 to explore the diverse range of trades and job opportunities at Lithgow Council.

Students were interested in work experience opportunities which would enable them to explore career pathways such as traineeships, apprenticeships, and entry level roles.

The Lithgow Council Human Resources team were incredibly pleased with the outcome of the day, highlighting the high number of students interested in learning about career options available at the Council. A highlight for students was getting to sit in the driver’s seat of one of Council’s diggers as an outdoor worker spoke about the diverse role of a plant operator and other outdoor job options available with the Council.

Earlier in the day Mayor Maree Statham, General Manager Craig Butler and Councillors Eric Mahony and Cassandra Coleman, attended the Business Breakfast catered by Lithgow High students. This breakfast provided local businesses, employers and community members the opportunity to meet and network.

On the importance of job opportunities for young people in Lithgow, Mayor Statham said “retaining our youth is crucial for the future of our community, that’s why events like Try a Trade are great, allowing Council and other businesses to showcase what opportunities and career pathways can be provided in our area”,

Lithgow City Council is one of the largest employers in Lithgow and is actively recruiting across a range of positions which are regularly advertised on the Council’s website: here
