Gallery Workshops
Digital animation, charcoal drawing, clay modelling and hanging mobiles are all on offer these July School Holidays at Penrith Regional Gallery.

Find it, Paste it, Poster it (Monday 16 July 10 – 12) is a workshop for children aged 5-9, dedicated to exploring a multitude of craft ideas. Students will work together using paper, magazines and glue to compose a carefully layered and coloured landscape inspired by the artwork of artist Kate Shaw. Cost: $30

In Exploding Animations (Tuesday 17 July 10 – 12), children 7 years and older will be able to create a short animation using the Gallery iPads to promote a positive environmental message and kick off their digital content career with a bang. Cost: $30

Bubble Wrap Trees (Wednesday 18 July 10-12) is a workshop great for children with a disability. This sensory art experience will stimulate the imagination as participants explore the textures in the fabulous Gallery garden before concluding artmaking with paint, bubble wrap, paper and a variety of other materials in the studios. At just $25 a session, carers and parents attend free.

But now it's time to get messy! Clay Landscapes says it all in the name – participants aged 7-11 will use their hands and imagination to sculpt, carve and mould clay into a 3D landscape. Thursday 19 July. Cost: $30.

Two special workshops on Friday 20 July wrap up this great winter holiday workshop program. The Moving, Colourful Mobiles workshop gives families the chance to work together to reinterpret Vicky Browne’s hanging installations and colourful and quirky mobile using string, cardboard and wall paper, ready to be hung in a special spot inside your home (10-11am, 3+, and just $12!).

In Spooky Sceneries (10-12, 7 – 11 years, $30), learn about perspective and composition as you create a mystical drawing of a landscape using charcoal and pastel on black paper.

Too many plans for the holidays? Art classes at the gallery run weekly for the entire school term from August through to September. Students can learn a multitude of art skills in Art Attack Saturdays which draws inspiration from the popular TV show, teaching mixed media techniques such as illustration, collage, painting, animation and printmaking. Wednesday Drawing School runs from 4pm - 5.30pm every Wednesday and teaches observational drawing skills while exploring a variety of drawing media, including graphite, charcoal and oil pastel.

All Gallery workshop participants will learn an array of skills and techniques while developing their creative confidence. Classes run for two hours each at $180 for the term.

All skill levels welcome
