The Minns Labor Government and Lithgow Council have met this week to confirm the way forward in restoring access to Wolgan Valley as a priority
The local community has been significantly impacted over the past three years. It is disappointing that previous Government and Council were not able to resolve the situation sooner.
Since the Minns Labor Government was elected, it has reviewed the operation of disaster recovery in NSW and increased funding available to councils.
Minister Aitchison has visited the site and talked to the local community, working closely with the Mayor since her election, bringing a more practical approach to the issue.
There was agreement that this issue must be resolved as quickly as is feasible, while ensuring safety and resilience is prioritised.
To move forward, it was agreed that the State Government and Council will work in lock step to restore temporary access using the existing road, while also expediting a permanent solution for this road.
Concurrently the option of a new alignment will also be reviewed over the summer.
The objective is to ensure that a single option is selected quickly to go forward. A concurrent process will enable the option to be selected sooner.
To further expedite an outcome, Transport for NSW and the NSW Reconstruction Authority have established a steering committee to support delivery of Wolgan Valley access
