Artists from Woodford to Mount Victoria in the Blue Mountains will open their studio doors to the public for the Blue Mountains Arts Trail on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 June 2018.

"The Blue Mountains Arts Trail gives the public a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes and meet the artists," says Graham Tribe, President of the Blue Mountains Creative Arts Network (BMCAN), which arranges the Arts Trail. "It is also an opportunity for artists to explain and show the work they have put so much of their hearts and souls into," Mr Tribe says. "Arts Trail visitors also learn valuable insights about art by interacting directly with the artist."

Some 11 studios are participating in stage 2 of the Arts Trail, with all kinds of art on show, ranging from paintings to pottery, mosaics to multimedia, photography, jewellery, ceramics, glassworks and more.

Jane Tadrist is just one of the 11 artists appearing in the Arts Trail. Jane is an award-winning silversmith and jeweller hailing from the United Kingdom. Her unique take on some of our indigenous flora feature designs derive from both her native land and her adopted one. This combination makes for distinctive and awe inspiring pieces. “I have been designing in silver for over 12 years and found a passion for it whilst attending arts college in England.”

Asked why she loves to work with silver, Ms Tadrist cites her love of community and the people she has worked among who bring together a sense of place, which is reflected in many of her designs. “Silver is a difficult medium to work with, as well as being very expensive, so all care is paramount when producing a piece,” she adds.

Jane also runs workshops, so that her knowledge and skills will be passed on to future generations of silversmiths. "The ubiquitous laser-cut metal items are what you now see in jewellery and have taken over traditional hand-forged pieces," she says. "I want to share my appreciation of hand-crafted objects and help keep silversmithing as a bespoke industry."

The Arts Trail is free and visitors can plan their visits using the map of participating galleries available on their website. The Blue Mountains Creative Arts Network (BMCAN) arranges four Arts Trails each year. The Woodford to Mount Victoria Arts Trail in June is followed by stage 3 stretching from Lapstone to Linden in September.
