Thanking our Volunteers

Volunteer Week is held in May each year and is a way of acknowledging and thanking our volunteers for the work they do in the community and celebrating how they make our community the amazing and vibrant place it is. Due to Covid-19, Council cancelled the celebration and instead asked local groups, organisations and individuals to nominate volunteers who are making contributions to the life of our region.

“I was pleased to receive so many nominations,” said Mayor Ray Thompson.  “We know there are many more volunteers in every area of the community, but these nominees are shining examples of the tireless work of volunteers and we are very grateful for all they do and contribute to the Lithgow LGA.”

Volunteers will receive a certificate of appreciation and a small token of our thanks in the form of a voucher to support local businesses. The nominees came from a range of sectors in the community including LINC Meals on Wheels, the Commonwealth Home Support Program and the Food Rescue service, the Women's Shed, Vinnies, the Bowenfels Hub, the Rural Fire Service, Beehive, Tidy Towns and Planet Ark.

Council acknowledges the amazing work of the RFS and other emergency services during the recent bushfire season and a separate event will be held later in the year to celebrate and thank these volunteers.

A full list of the Volunteer award recipients is on Council’s website.
