Take the pledge this National Road Safety Week – 15-22 May 2022
The pledge includes:
- I pledge to drive as if my loves ones are on the road ahead.
- I will remove all distractions and never use my mobile phone while driving.
- I will not put other people at risk by speeding, driving while tired or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- I will protect all vulnerable road users, especially those whose job places them in harm's way, by slowing down and giving them the space they need to be safe.
Blue Mountains Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said: "Council is proud to continue its commitment to road safety by once again supporting National Road Safety Week and asking our community to do the same."
National Road Safety Week is an initiative of SARAH (Safer Australian Roads and Highways) by President, Peter Frazer, who tragically lost his daughter Sarah in a road crash in 2012.
In addition to driving safely and taking the pledge, residents can show their support by displaying a yellow ribbon on their vehicle and wearing a yellow lapel ribbon during the week.
On Sunday, 15 May, the National Road Safety Campaign is also asking people to remember the 1200 people who died on our roads last year.

Blue Mountains City Council is also continuing its Slow Down in my Street campaign until mid-June, which encourages motorists to slow down on load roads and drive to the conditions. Residents interested in playing their part in encouraging slower speeds and safe driving behaviour can request a bin sticker for their Council waste bin by emailing: council@bmcc.nsw.gov.au.
