Support for Knapsack Park Upgrade
Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said “I am pleased to say that the Council has been able to allocate funding for the upgrade of both the clubhouse and the car park in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 budgets.
"I have been concerned for some time about the state of the carpark and clubhouse. Knapsack Park is such an important sporting facility in the Blue Mountains. They are more than overdue for an upgrade.
“Stage one is the upgrade of the clubhouse followed by the upgrade of the car park and landscaping surrounding the clubhouse.
"The improvements to parking alone will not only help the club, players and families but will take pressure of local streets. This will be a welcome relief for local residents.
"My aim is to get this underway in this term of council.
The upgrade of the club house and car park follows the recent upgrade of the oval surface which also came about through a significant injection of funds," Mayor Greenhill said.
Ms Templeman said she welcomed the Council funding and would work with the Council to ensure the projects come to fruition.
"The Mayor and I have been discussing the matter with the Blue Mountains Football club and we all agree that this is a great opportunity to see this work occur sooner rather than later," she said.
"I have offered the Mayor my support in seeking additional funds at a Federal level, should that be required. Ms Templeman said.
“The work required is significant and the best results are achieved when different levels of government work in partnership.
"These upgrades will make the oval safer, as parking is more controlled, and improve club amenities,"she said.
Blue Mountains Soccer Club President David Smith said the club was happy to facilitate this important work.
"We welcome this development and agree that these upgrades will make life better for local families and players as they participate in this game we all love so much."
