Summerhayes Park Playspace Inclusivity Upgrade Completed

Blue Mountains City Council’s upgrade of the playspace at Summerhayes Park, Winmalee, has been completed.

The improved facilities make the space more inclusive for users of all abilities.

In 2019 Council was awarded a grant of $50,000 under the NSW Government’s ‘Everyone Can Play’ program, which supports councils to create new playspaces – and upgrade existing spaces – with a focus on inclusivity. This helps to ensure people of all ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds can play. Council matched the funding with a further $50,000 to significantly improve the play experience.

“Daily play and social connection is very important to children’s development, especially those who can be isolated by their circumstances. Inclusivity is vital in building community resilience,” Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said.

The works include new fencing, seating, accessible paths and more sensory and social play elements, along with elements of nature play and an upgraded swing with lumbar support.

All four district parks in the Blue Mountains (at Glenbrook, Springwood, Wentworth Falls and Blackheath) are receiving upgrades valued at more than $5.2 million, thanks to funding received through the Western Parkland City Liveability Program.
