Summer Reading Club Goes Digital
This year, the Library is launching Summer Reading Club online and encouraging children, young adults and now adults to sign up and enjoy reading adventures through a brand new app and website. But, if you’re a fan of the paper reading logs, these will still be available.
The new look Summer Reading Club launches on 1 December and runs through to 31 January 2021. Summer Reading Club online is an easy to use, interactive platform that encourages reading for personal best at all ages, and allows readers to log books they’ve read and even submit reviews and artworks.
Kids and young adults can win digital awards and great prizes, such as book vouchers from The Turning Page and Megalong Bookshops, as well as badges and an entry pass to one of our wonderful Blue Mountains Leisure Centre pools. What better reward for summer reading?
Adult readers can choose their summer reading adventures in fun challenges set by the Library and receive digital rewards. Readers can stretch their boundaries by trying out the Travel Read, Scary Read, Funny Read or even the Gory Read challenges and more.
Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill has followed the 12 year progress of the Library’s Summer Reading Program and welcomes the new direction.
“Going digital with Summer Reading Club online encourages readers to read for fun, to try something new and to set some reading goals for the summer,” Mayor Greenhill said. “It’s a great way to build on the success of many years of Summer Reading Challenges which have attracted a huge following and fostered a love of reading. And this year, we’re really glad to be able to introduce challenges for adults too – why should kids have all the fun?!”
Since it started in 2008 the Summer Reading Program has seen over 6,000 children and young adults registered, and over 100,000 books read. So, wherever you’re spending summer and whatever age you are, join the Summer Reading Club.
Go to the Blue Mountains Library website for more information, or collect a log sheet at any Library branch. The challenge will be available from 1 December 2020.
