More pre-schoolers in the Blue Mountains will have access to state-of-the-art early childhood learning facilities and specialised educational programs, thanks to the NSW Government’s Quality Learning Environments program.

Government Member of the Legislative Council and Blue Mountains resident Shayne Mallard MP on Wednesday announced the following preschools and not-for-profit long day care centres in the Blue Mountains will receive grants of up to $10,000 under the program:

  • Katoomba Leura Preschool: $10,000
  • Possum Early Childhood Centre: $9,218

“I am thrilled that the littlest learners in the Blue Mountains will benefit from this funding now and for years to come,” Mr Mallard said.

“These grants can be used to make physical improvements to early childhood services, like new gardens, jungle gyms or bathroom renovations, and can also assist the rollout of new learning programs, like music lessons or yoga classes.

“I look forward to seeing how the two services in the Blue Mountains utilise this funding.”

Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning Sarah Mitchell said it is crucial to continue to invest in the State’s youngest learners.

“Research shows the cognitive, social and emotional benefits a quality early childhood education has on our children, so it is important that as a Government we continue to make these important investments,” Ms Mitchell said.

“Our future doctors, lawyers, farmers and teachers are being shaped in our preschools and long day care centres as we speak, so an investment in them really is an investment in our future.”
