Springwood Library Upgrade Community Consultation

The morning session discussed various questions put forward by Council, including how residents use the library and what would encourage them to use it more. The event also explored ways in which the library could be more accessible and inclusive for all members of the community.
Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said: “Springwood Library is an important community facility and the improvements will complete the redevelopment of this dynamic cultural precinct, following the opening of the new Blue Mountains Community Theatre & Hub in 2015.
“We value feedback and input from all members of the community on this significant upgrade.”
The proposed redevelopment will result in a larger, contemporary light-filled public facility. It will include full height glazing to the south façade on the ground floor, to provide a commanding view over the mountains and allow more natural light to enter the library.
The redesign also proposes a modified reception area and rendered finish to the external façade and includes new adult reading areas, a kids’ activity and reading area, lounge booths and study booths, as well as a new accessible lift.
Following consultation, the concepts for the redevelopment will undergo a detailed design phase.
The upgrade is funded from the Western Parkland City Liveability Program, which is part of the Western Sydney City Deal (WSCD). The WSCD is a 20 year-agreement between Australian and NSW governments and the eight local Councils of the Western Parkland City.
You can still have your say on the redevelopment of Springwood Library, by completing the survey. The survey will be open until Saturday, 17 August.
