The Senior Futsal finals at Katoomba were held recently. The night saw some very entertaining futsal and some of the goals that were scored were superb. Congratulations to all teams who had progressed to the finals and played solidly and tenaciously on the night.

Division 1 began the finals night with the top 2 teams, Texas Worm Burners and Cha Cha Cha. Yug who caught the keeper off guard and got Texas Worm Burners on the scoreboard in under 30 seconds. This drew the cheers from the crowd and his team. Gab, Rodney and Ethan continued to smash shots at Jordan, who took it in his stride palming off and saving the bombardment from Cha Cha Cha. Ethan had a power shot which rebounded off the cross bar to drop at Joao’s feet to level up the score. Reuben continued to cause havoc on the court and stole a lose ball and put the Texas Worm Burners in the lead. Joe used his foot majik and extended the leads to 3-1. Cha Cha Cha held on to their defence with fierceness. Nick from Texas Worm Burners ran the ball down the flank and found the back of the net giving them a comfortable lead. Jack and Jesse had a hard head clash that left them both bloody on the court. A quick patch up saw Jack back on the court, but Jesse took a trip to the hospital. Andre replied from Cha Cha Cha closing the gap at half time. Ethan came out at the second half and brought Cha Cha Cha score up to 3 putting the pressure on Texas Worm Burners. Joe and Jordan felt that the pressure was too much and they needed to put more stress on themselves by Joe passing back to the keeper twice causing penalties. Both being unsuccessful. The game continued to entertain the crowd with some great passing, Ethan flicked a precision pass to Rodney who scooped it into the back of the net putting the scores to 4 all. The intensity rose and both teams where relentless in their need to have the win. But Texas Worm Burners had the final say with a pass from Theuy to Joe who slid it on through past the keeper. Cha Cha Cha rotated their players in the keeper role but Jordan Ryan from Texas Worm Burners was amazing on the night and was congratulated by both teams as well as the referees for his outstanding performance. Texas Worm Burners winning over Cha Cha Cha 5-4.

Division 2

Both these teams had an interesting road to the finals. Soccer Who’s who were placed in 2nd place on the ladder secured their place in the finals whilst Mesa Barrio upset the competition leaders in the semi’s to come up against Soccer Who’s. Andre led Mesa barrio on the score board with a great cross from Jack. Reuben replied quickly for Soccer Who’s with a little flick to even up the scores. Chris was strong and faultless in goals as always. This kept the score line fairly low with Nick doing a nice pull back to put Mesa Barrio in the lead at half time 2-1 Reuben again showed his skills with a nice side step to even up the scores. All team players Theuy, Michael, Brad and Liam put in a tremendous effort, whilst Ruben, Gab, Ben, Joe, and Jesse defended solidly The score remained steady as both teams continued to hammer the oppositions goal. Will and Ben made some solid passes and attempts but where unsuccessful. A flick kick off Ethan rebounded to Reuben’s feet and allowed Soccer Who’s back in the lead. Theuy finished off the game with a lovely run down the wing and sliced it into the back of the net. Soccer Who’s winning the Division 2 final 4-2 against Mesa Barrio

Division 3

M7 and Iron Pirates had a great run to the finals with both teams stacked with skill and speed. Jared from Iron Pirates and Kristian from M7 shared the goal keeper duties and made some great saves. However it was M7’s night and they played perfect futsal. Allia put the first of their goals into the back of the net with a nice slice past the keeper. Grant dominated the sideline on numerous occasions and continued to cause havoc down the flank. Daniel and Sheridan assisted many attacks causing concern for the opposition. Penglaze did some great crosses, finally connecting with Grant to increase the score line. Grant placed a perfection ball to Tom who gave the M7 team a 5-0 lead at half time. However the Iron Pirates never gave up and persistently made shots at the keeper. Henry and Tomas’s flair on the court just didn’t seem to fire up on the night as it had during the competition. Kristian was having a moment of nostalgia showing off his recently injury scar and was nearly caught off guard by a power shot from Dylan. Tom and Grant increased their tally with Allia following soon after. Grant then secured the game without a doubt giving M7 the lead 9-0. However Frazer needed to give Iron Pirates some dignity and slotted home a rebounded ball off the keeper. M7 9 to Iron Pirates 1.

Division 4

Blue Mountains International Hotel School (BMIHS) where a team that enjoyed their weekly game of  Futsal and always brought along the cheer squad, vocal and enthusiastic. All didn’t start off well for Al dente their opposition and a penalty was awarded for a hand ball. Sergio took the dot shot and put BMIHS in the lead, leaving Toro no chance of a save. Sergio then stole a loose ball and increased their lead 2-0. Jack, Angie and Chris combined well down the court and were unlucky not to score. A ricochet ball off Jacks foot, fell to Sergio’s feet allowing him to power it past the keeper. Praveen was amazing in goals and made some athletic saves. Tim put in a power shot but was denied by Praveen. James showed off his talent and increased his team’s lead to a 4-0. Again Sergio was strong on the ball giving BMIHS a 5-0 lead at half time.

Al dente came out strong in the second half with Toro coming out of goals, relinquishing his role to Sandor. Toro quietly and without much fuss, put in a few shots and found the back of the net on two occassions. Marcellus ran the sideline well all night. A lovely cross soon found Matts feet who slid it past the keeper allowing Al dente to feel they were getting back into the match. James from BMIHS took a loose ball from Chris and put another into the net. Elise positioned herself beautifully to take a header from the keeper but it hit the crossbar denying her a spot of glory. Sandor crept out of goals but August quickly noticed and shot a goal giving BMIHS a 7 – 3 lead. Bimo and Sergio ran the middle well and had many chances spoilt by the oppositions keeper. Sergio and James finished off the BMIHS tally giving the BMIHS a comfortable lead over Al dente to the tune of 9 – 3

Division 5

Obe 1 Kenobi 0 and Foot Soldiers had been evenly matched during the competition and both teams were eager for the finals. Michel took the first for Obe 1 Kenobi 0 followed closely by a great combination between Marcellus and Hayden from Foot Soldiers locking the scores at 1-1. Team work from Stuart and Michel led to their second goal. Brendan and Toro have mastered the goalkeeper role and both made some amazing saves to help their team mates. Tim evened up the score from a great lob pass from Toro. Andrew and Addye combined well to bring them to the lead. However Hayden smashed a corner kick at the box participants and unluckily bounced off Jonathon, but luckily for Foot Soldiers it  evened up the scores. Angie and Tim were relentless down the centres and wings and this allowed Tim to put Foot Soldiers in the lead. But Andrew fought back with a nice goal and at half time scores were locked in at 4 all.

The second half started off intense with some great shots on goal and athletic saves from the keepers. Michel utilised an error from a side kick and put in a quick goal and then quickly put another  in the net to give Obe 1 Kenobi 0 a 6-4 lead. The action went from end to end and all players put in a 100% effort . A high ball bounced and landed at Hayden’s feet who powered it home and was followed closely by a Marcellus cut cut through the opposition and bam into the back of the net. The intensity increased as the scored were even at 6 all. Stuart and Michel combined well to finish off the game and put another on the scoreboard, allowing Obe 1 Kenobi 0 the win over Foot Soldiers in the final moments of the game Obe 1 Kenobi 0 7 to Foot Soldiers 6.
