Blackheath Women

On Thursday 17th Marilyn Rowe sponsored a Par event. Conditions were cool and still, good for golf. Louise Aaron (30) took advantage by recording a winning +1 score, two better than the runner-up, Rhonda Lonergan. Nearest-the-Pin on the 17th was won by Jennifer Wilde, while Rhonda won the Blackheath Vegie Patch-sponsored 13th. Balls went to Louise, Rhonda, Karen Tolhurst, Jennifer, Yvonne Murray, Joan Aitken, Virginia Hurst and Jeanette Hawkins.

On Saturday 19th May there was a Single Stableford sponsored by Lynne Pressley and held on ideal autumn conditions. Sandra Draper (26) won with 34 points over Rhonda Lonergan (22) with 22. Lynne was closest at the 7th and Rhonda closest at the “Blackheath Vegie-Patch”-sponsored 13th to take the Nearest-the-Pin prizes. Balls went to Sandra, Rhonda, Kerry Wynne, Marie Griffiths, Cindy Fitzgerald, Yvonne Murray and Jean Simpson.

Blackheath Men

On Wednesday 16th May the Men held their usual Single Stableford and 2BBB. Great weather saw a return to the winners’ circle for Walter Sheil (24, 41 points) and Gordon Stovold (16, 40 points). Jim Walsh (18) and Geoff Hilder (23) won with 46 points, one less than their running-up score of last week. Steve Tolhurst (11) and Peter White (26) came second OCB. Nearest-the-Pin winners were Ian Griffiths at the 5th (395cm) and Murray Mehrtens at the 17th (351cm). Balls went to 35 points OCB.

On Saturday 19th May we ran a Bisque Par, sponsored by Graham Jones and Peter White with $200 in prizes. The three-month information and education program designed to enable players to complete their scorecards properly will require revision, but apart from that, the event was a resounding success. The weather was fine. David Pope (22) managed 7+ to squeeze out Ken Scully (19) on countback to claim victory. Paul Cinet (18), in his first competition game at the Club scored +6 to secure third. Balls went to +2 OCB.

Nearest-the-Pin awards and the NTP sponsors are as follows. 2nd hole sponsored by Blue Mountains Plantation Shutters and Cabinet Making, John VanVeen 156cm. This was Jonathan’s first competition game as a member at Blackheath. 5th hole, Office Choice Blue Mountains, Stuart Brown 188cm. 7th hole, Peter White 100cm. 13th hole, sponsored by Blue Mountain Escapes, Graham Dowdell 88cm. 14th hole, Richard Todd from Killara, 135cm. 17th hole, sponsored by Ben Cameron, Mick Campbell 86cm. Mick’s effort, because it was within 1.5 metres, won him our lucrative “Pro-Pin”.
