Skill Yourself 2018

In conjunction with Bunnings Lithgow, the Lithgow Library will be hosting a series of basic DIY skills workshops throughout 2018 with the first session taking place on 26 March.

There are many members of our community, who through the loss of a partner or the breakdown of a relationship may find themselves at a loss in how to complete some really basic tasks around the house. It may be that there was never a need or interest in DIY skills, or being in a position to learn them, but that’s all changing now with the collaboration between the library and Bunnings.

“It is never too late to learn new skills so these workshops are a great opportunity to equip our community. Age, gender and experience shouldn’t be a barrier to acquiring a whole range of new and very practical skills,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor Stephen Lesslie.

Library Officer Ali Kim admires the work of the Orange Women’s Shed, watching with great interest the growth and development of the Orange Women’s Shed, from quite basic beginnings at Bunnings DIY workshops, to now being an important part of the community. The Orange Women’s Shed has given women of all age’s access to training and knowledge and practical skills, to do the things that their dads or husbands have traditionally not taught them. There is a need for something similar in Lithgow for skill sharing and equipping women with the confidence they might lack to do these kinds of jobs. These basic workshops supported by Bunnings will be a great starting place for the women of Lithgow.

The first workshop will be held on March the 26th at the Library at 10am. Booking for these workshops are essential as the numbers are strictly limited.

For more information contact the library.
