Share your views on dogs in public spaces
The workshops are part of the second phase of consultation for Council’s Dogs in Public Spaces Strategy review, which will guide how off-leash areas, shared parks and walking trails are managed in the years ahead.
Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said the review is an important opportunity to balance the needs of all members of the community.
“We know that dogs are a valued part of many households, but we also understand that not everyone feels comfortable around them and that dogs need to be safely managed at all times,” Cr Greenhill said.
“This review is about finding that balance, ensuring our parks and public spaces remain safe, accessible and welcoming for everyone, while also protecting our unique bushland and wildlife.”
Council is encouraging a diverse range of voices to take part, including dog owners, sporting and recreation users, families, and those who prefer to avoid dogs in public spaces.
As part of this consultation, Council has designed one of the workshops specifically for community members who do not own dogs, or who find dogs in public spaces challenging.
“We want everyone to feel comfortable sharing their experiences, whether they spend every day with dogs or choose to give dogs a wide berth,” Cr Greenhill said.
“The more diversity of input we receive, the stronger the strategy will be.”
Residents can visit the website or call Council on 4780 5000 to register their interest to attend one of several workshops being held across the upper, mid and lower Mountains during December.
