Liberal Senator for Western Sydney, Senator the Hon Marise Payne, has encouraged Blue Mountains City Council to apply for funding under the Morrison Government’s Safer Communities Fund following the recent desecration of Sir Henry Parkes’ grave site in Faulconbridge.

The Safer Communities Fund, which provides funding to eligible organisations for the establishment of local crime prevention and security measures, such as CCTV cameras and lighting, has recently opened for applications.

Senator Payne said the opening of round five was particularly timely.

“It is very concerning that the Father of Federation’s resting place has been targeted by vandals. There is clearly a need for improved security infrastructure at this important location,” Senator Payne said.

“I have written to Blue Mountains City Council to bring to their attention that applications for round five of the Safer Communities Fund are now open, and I have encouraged Council to consider applying for this funding opportunity.

“I look forward to working alongside local residents, who first brought this to the community’s attention, and with Council, to see what funding can be secured.”

Senator Payne has also announced the opening of her 2019-2020 Western Sydney Safer Streets Survey.

“Following the success of last year’s survey, I am very pleased to once again encourage local business chambers, community organisations and residents to use my online survey to help identify local crime and anti-social behavior hot spots,” Senator Payne said.

“Local feedback is very important in helping to identify problematic locations and potential solutions, and the Survey is all about harnessing that grassroots knowledge to help make our community safer.”

Applications for the Fund close on 10 December 2019. For further information about round five, including how to apply and eligibility criteria, visit the Australian Government Business website.
