Important safety upgrades to roads leading to the Perrys lookdown precinct in Blue Mountains National Park are about to begin.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) work will see Perrys Lookdown and Anvil Rock roads sealed and improvements to the Perrys Lookdown day-use area, with new signage and formalised car parking.

'The safety upgrades will provide a better experience for park visitors,' said NPWS Blue Mountains Branch Director David Crust.

'Sealing Perrys Lookdown and Anvil Rock roads within the Blue Mountains National Park will also improve access for emergency responses, including fire and search and rescue, to Perrys lookdown and Anvil Rock. These works include the upgrade of the Anvil Rock and Perrys Lookdown roads intersection, speeds humps and additional road safety signage.

'The road can be impacted by heavy rainfall so we will be upgrading drainage to improve vehicle safety and run-off water quality.

'The current picnic area at Perrys lookdown will also be given a facelift with new picnic tables and chairs, better parking and signage.'

Located near Blackheath in the upper Blue Mountains, Perrys lookdown offers spectacular views of the historic Blue Gum Forest and the magnificent sandstone cliffs of Mount Banks.

Perrys lookdown and Anvil Rock will be closed to walkers and cars when the $850,000 improvement works begin on 9 October 2023. While construction work is underway, there will be no access into the Grose Valley from Perrys lookdown within Blue Mountains National Park. NPWS plans to reopen the area to cars and walkers during the busy summer school holiday period before closing over February 2024 for road sealing. Walking access from Acacia Flat to Perrys lookdown will be closed while the improvement work is underway.

'During the upgrades, walkers can access Acacia Flat from Pierces Pass, Victoria Falls and Lockleys Pylon,' said Mr Crust. 'However, visitors should check the NPWS Alert page prior to any visit to get the latest up-to-date park and track information.'
