Retired councillor Kevin Schreiber honoured for a lifetime of service

Earlier this year the long service of several councillors was recognised at the February Ordinary Council Meeting, however Mr Schreiber was unable to attend.
Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill visited him this week to personally deliver the award.
Councillor Greenhill said: “Kevin Schreiber was an outstanding Councillor and this Lifetime Achievement Award from Local Government NSW is very much deserved following almost 30 years of service.
“Before he was a Blue Mountains City Councillor, Kevin served as Mayor of the Sutherland Shire for five terms. It was during his tenure that the Cronulla riots took place and Kevin provided calm and caring leadership, helping to heal his community.
“He later served two terms on Blue Mountains City Council under my mayoralty and continued to serve with honour, compassion and dedication to our community.
“In many ways Kevin and I are opposites – he’s a Liberal and I’m Labor. But Kevin is also a good person and a selfless public servant. I have nothing but respect and admiration for him and I am immensely proud of his friendship and service.
“Kevin, congratulations on this honour, I can’t think of anyone who deserves it more. I’m proud of you mate.”
