Lithgow Council has received funding from the NSW Government replace timber bridges at Rydal and Upper Turon with concrete structures.

The timber bridges on Charles Street, Rydal and Red Hill Road, Upper Turon were constructed in 1954 and 1937 respectively and have reached the end of their useful life.

“These modern, reinforced concrete structures will improve fire resistance and increase reliability” Lithgow City Council’s Mayor Maree Statham said. “In an environment prone to bushfire, and consistent and heavy rainfall, the resilience of our assets, and access to remote communities, is of great importance to this Council. This funding from the NSW Government is greatly appreciated.”

“These works also reduce maintenance costs, enabling Council to divert funding to other maintenance priorities.” continued the Mayor. “Overall, this represents a total investment of close to $6.5 million in the upgrade of Lithgow’s bridges in the Capertee Valley, Turon Valley and Rydal.”

In collaboration with Transport for NSW, Council will be calling for tenders over the coming months, with works expected to commence in late-2023. Residents in the vicinity of the construction sites will be kept updated as the project progresses.
